10 sec. thinking about the future

Roma / Amor

film-loop, 16mm, colour, 5 minutes, mute, 1999

In the summer of 1999, we asked nons at the Dome of St. Peters, and ancient soldiers in front of the colosseum in Rome to look into the lens of a 16 mm Bolex film camera and think about the future for 10 seconds. Inspired by the “thought photography“ in the early times of photography, as researchers like Marie Curie found out about the phenomena to visualize radiation, we ask people, to think into the lens of a 16 mm Bolex film camera about the future for 10 seconds.

About Film Installation
-

For the Snowscape Moere, a winter art exhibition at the Moerenuma Park in Sapporo, we realised a multiscreen video installation in collaboration with the architect Shinichiro Akasaka. On a number of tents, made of semitransparent snow-resistant cloth, that correspond with the glass pyramid of Isamu Noguchi in a temporary skyline, we projected 5 videos with portraits of people of different european and japanese cities, that think about the future for 10 seconds. It is an elusive image, just like a snowflake.
