Narita Field Trip

HD, colour, stereo, 29 min., 2010

"Narita Field Trip" is focussing on the shift of public perception of Narita (Airport). The area was the center of the protests in the 70ies, but that's almost forgotten today. Some farmers are still around, continuing their protest against the growth of the Airport and running organic farms between the runways. The younger generation in Japan doesn‘t know much about it, the protest seems to be history and the organic farming just an adventurous pastime for the kids from Tokyo.

A young couple from Tokyo comes to Narita to do some voluntary work on an organic farm on the airport. During their stay, they are exploring the area and get confronted with the history and current activities of the farmers, that are protesting against the airport since the 70ies. They become gradually drawn to it, but finally each of them has to face the decision: to go back to Tokyo or to stay at Narita.
