Snow Di­vi­sion is a film about the mak­ing of a giant snow sculp­ture by the Japan­ese Self-De­fense Force for the Sap­poro Snow Fes­ti­val.
It shows the army, that is rather as­so­ci­ated with de­fense and de­struc­tion, than with cre­ativ­ity, cre­at­ing a sculp­ture for the joy of the cit­i­zens as a pro­duc­tive col­lec­tive. The sculp­ture pic­tures a group of en­dan­gered species, sym­bol­iz­ing a dis­ap­pear­ing beauty, like the snow that melts after a few days.
